A dental bridge is an option for replacing one or more missing teeth and restoring the appearance and function of your smile.
A dental bridge is a prosthetic device used to fill a gap created by one or more missing teeth. It is essentially an artificial tooth (or teeth) mounted onto existing teeth or implants and cemented into place, bridging the gap.
At Somersmiles Dental, patient care is our top priority. While root canal therapy has a reputation for being an unpleasant procedure, we aim to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
First up, assessment and x-rays are done to help your dentist assess the work that is required. This is followed by a consultation with your dentist and treatment coordinator to develop and schedule your treatment plan. During your consultation we’ll discuss the options for ensuring your comfort during the procedure including local anaesthetic or sleep dentistry. We encourage you to read more about Sleep Dentistry here. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and sign a consent form before proceeding.
Following your consultation, your dentist will prepare your teeth to receive the bridge. This involves filing down the top and sides of the supporting teeth to make room for the bridge to be attached. A digital scan or impressions will be made and sent to our specialist technician to create your bridge. You may be given a temporary bridge to protect the area while this is being made.
During this appointment, we will take the necessary steps to minimise any discomfort in accordance with your treatment plan, whether that be local anaesthetic or sleep dentistry sedation.
Once your bridge has been created you’ll return to have it fitted. Your dentist will remove your temporary bridge and place the permanent bridge, cementing it in place with a special adhesive.
After your treatment has been completed, we will provide you with post-procedure care information.
